Cu Chi Tunnel

Despite the humorous name, the Cu Chi Tunnels were actually pretty ingenious and sad at the same time. The Viet Minh (people from the non-communist South Vietnam) built these tunnels to hide from the French, but eventually, these tunnels became very usefull when the Vietnam war started.

Its an incredible circuit of tunnels with rooms and chambers and trap doors. Think of an ant farm, but much more complex and big enough to barely fit you. The tunnels allowed the people to disappear and reappear in a totally different location.

I think American soldiers during the war said something like, the Vietnamese are nowhere and everywhere at the same time.


the entrances were really small and hidden partially to keep the "fat americans" out (yes, that is a direct quote from our tour guide).

Dave is not a fat american.




i however, am a nervous Asian. i took one look at Dave inside that hole, saw absolutely nothing, PITCH black, and i said, mmmm i'll walk on the mainland.

Ho Ho Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh is ruled by mopeds, they're ALL OVER THE STREEET!!! Ho Chi Minh, in the South of Vietnam, was formerly known as Saigon...there are tons of street vendors selling street food.


this particular man kept running after us to buy his stuff, but we weren't into it. he offered to have his photograph taken (which of course means you have to pay him!) so dave took his picture and gave him a little dong (currency in Vietnam).

Climbing a Volcano...on horseback.

We went to Tagaytay city, which is just an hour outside of Manila. The volcano has a lake and is within a lake...i know really confusing, but its something like that. Anyway, so Dave and I went to my grandmothers old house in Tagaytay, spent the night, and the next day went to Taal Volcano.

you have to take a boat across the lake to get to the volcano.


thats the volcano there, a volcano within a lake...its like a babushka doll with more lake and volcano within it. its hard to explain!


we found out later that couldve gone up another path that where we wouldn't have to use horses, but the horses were fun anyway.

i'm actually in cambodia right now, and i'm going to try to post more pictures, but the internet is like interNOT here...so keep checking, i'm having an incredible time...too amazing to even begin to describe.

Imelda Marcos

We saw Imelda Marcos after dinner one day, she has such a presence. We were with my aunt and they were chatting it up a little and Dave took a quick picture with her.

Banaue has really amazing rice terraces, world famous, and sadly most filipinos never even go there because its too much of a trek to get there from Manila. See them there in the background? I'm supposed to give Dave credit for pictures...so anything that you see thats extraordinarily good, is his doing.

see how narrow these paths are? i was talking about how dangerous it is and how it would be really easy to fall and then i fell. i believe as i fell i said, "AAAH LIKE THIS!" i was just lucky to fall at a portion of the path where the drop wouldnt' have been so long...but yes, Dave was very glad i was laughing because i think it looked painful.
